Chitwan National Park lies in the
lowland Terai. Along with the Parsa extension, it covers 1,431
sq.km. The park provides habitat for over 40 species of animals
and more than 450 species of birds. Mammal species include the
Great One-Horned rhino, Elusive Royal Bengal Tiger, leopard, gaur bison,
sloth bear, sambar and chital deer, wild pig and wild elephant. Chitwan became a
World Heritage site in
December 1984.
From Kathmandu 162 kms you can reach the park by road or air.
